ANALYZING THE GRAPHIC COMPOSITION OF A STILL

We analyze an image using graphic and compositional elements.. such as lines, shapes, vectors, focus, depth etc. Graphic elements are what we call anything that has form in the frame, as well as any implied lines.

TO DO IT LOOK AT THE IMAGE AND ASK YOURSELF QUESTIONS.

1. RULE OF THIRDS
IS THE FRAME DIVIDED ACCORDING TO THE RULE OF THIRDS OR IN ANOTHER WAY? DO THE PEOPLE OR OBJECTS IN THE IMAGE SEEM TO FIT IN A GRID?

2. GRAPHIC VECTORS: LINES
VERTICALS:  IS THERE A STRONG OR WEAK LINE OR SHAPE THAT RUNS UP AND DOWN/ VERTICALLY? ARE THERE MANY LINES LIKE THAT?

HORIZONTALSIS THERE A STRONG OR WEAK LINE OR SHAPE THAT RUNS UP AND DOWN/ HORIZONTALLY? ARE THERE MANY LINES LIKE THAT?

DIAGONALS
