RTD 331 CLASS PROJECTS
The Sales of Zelda

Got games: Uses a vertical bar graph as the ground for icons that represent games.
Initial sketch
Simple use of colors, grouping of circles and similar drawings with critical differences makes this very beautiful and informative.
This project is really a graph shape that shows few white squirrels in 1902, the most in 1942, and a receding amount by 2012. What is also clear is that, even without reading the numbers, there are ALOT of white squirrels in Olney. The artist also uses a colorful gradient in an effective way.
This project was made by a student from Japan who wished to practice her drawing skills. Look at how the shadows are also shapes that have been modified. The flower pattern in the background has been treated with a gradient too. FIRST VERSION OF KIMONOS below.
This uses a grid to organize information about heart rate and different kinds of activity. The meditating figure was drawn by hand while tracing a bitmap image.- here is one of the early drawings.
OTHER INFORMATIVE COMPOSITIONS FOUND ONLINE
This is organized around two large blocks that form the surface planes for the information about pronouns and gender.
Self explanatory. (this might be a student project)

Matt Levy- Movies based on MARVEL Comics
Great work with using modules and units on this project and nice use of rhythm with the movie names and details at the bottom. Better resolution at Matt's blog

Prisons versus schools: Prisoners versus Students- a map
This is a map that indicates the density of prisons and prisoners in each state. The title,
"The U.S. has more jails than colleges. Here’s a map of where those prisoners live." is a wee bit misleading as it doesn't show you the schools, just the prisons. We have to take their word on it that there are more jails that schools. Here is a screenshot of the map- it uses color shading and intensity to represent the statistics.
from the article:
There were 2.3 million prisoners in the U.S. as of the 2010 Census. It's often been remarked that our national incarceration rate of 707 adults per every 100,000 residents is the highest in the world, by a huge margin. Read the article HERE and see the interactive map.

Cloacina
Cloacina is somewhat like a think tank based in Portland that does research into toilets and other kinds of sensitive- or should we say intimate waste disposal. Their website is full of projects including a wonderful series of posters that explain decomposition processes through flowcharts. Like this one.

Art projects drawing from Infographic strategies
Jennifer Dalton (LINK) This one is worth looking at the link to see it is a series of pie charts that give information about a small city.
William POWHIDA (LINK)
This is just hand written text but it is nice the way he uses color, and also divides up the space in interesting ways- it is organic the way it follows the lettering rather than straight lines.

raising hope- elementary reader style
See the storyboard here
Raising Hope uses an elementary reader style for their titles
from designer Ariel Shepard:
"I was hired by Shine Creative Director Michael Riley to illustrate these cards for Raising Hope, a comedic sitcom on Television Network Fox that first aired Fall 2010. I collaborated with animator Cory Shaw to create this Main title using the concept of a twisted comedic Dick and Jane. This was a
great project. The show got picked up for a second season and I went back to shine in 2011 and rebooted a few cards. Working with Shine and Cory Shaw is always a pleasure."
