Chapter 2 synopsis
Chapter 2 switched gears on us. While the first chapter focused on military advances in technology, the second chapter focus on the "counter-culture," or the ideology that computers can be used for the propagation of peace, and not soley for the destruction of mankind. The movement of "hippies" in the 1960's could be considered the centerpiece, or cornerstone of this ideology. Some saw computer technology as a tool of the government and that as a communal society such technology would be a detriment. But as the technology grew, many of these "hippies" realized that the computer could be used for good, and now is actually one of the greatest tools the people have to spread their ideas, and to keep the state in check.
