Eva's Images
The Black Fire Dancers current goal is to attract female dancers for tryouts to expand the team before the final four members graduate. Their second goal is to raise their awareness on campus back up, so they will have their own show next semester and need to promote it.
I will try to address the need for dancers by making the group appeal to current freshman and sophomore female students. I will try to make it feel like this group as a RSO fulfills a need other than just being another dance group. I will also incorporate information about the show for next semester and make it feel like something both a dancer would want to be a part of and someone, audience member, would want to see.
Black Fire Dancers challenges, the biggest challenge; is that there are four members who have been on the team for the past four years and they graduate next semester. The team acquired three new members this school year, but only one survived the semester. BFD needs to get at least six to ten solid, dedicated dancers who can continue BFD’s legacy.
Some of the images that can be used will show the team’s sisterhood and how they treat the team as more than just people who meet twice a week and happen to have something in common. BFD is the most technical dance team out of their main competition. The video images that will be included are snippets of a few performances.
The most unique thing about BFD is that they have been on campus the longest, as far as dance groups, since 1974 and they are the only all girl dance group. BFD is also considered a minority RSO, but have and still open membership up to any girl who passes the tryout stages.
BFD does not only confine themselves to dancing; they are very active in the community. They participate in Day of Service, walks for charity hosted by various organizations (heart, diabetes, cancer and arthritis) and perform for the Boys and Girls Club. They also volunteer on campus during campus events. BFD is a strong supporter of women and uplifting them. They put on a show dedicated to women spring semester 2009 during Women’s Month entitled Women on Fire. They also recently participated in Be My Bra for Breast Cancer Awareness month.
All of these things are important because it separates them from other RSO organizations, but most importantly dance groups. It displays their value for service and their respect for their history.
The colors that will be used are red and black because those are the team’s colors. Yellow and orange will also be incorporated to represent fire, which is their symbol; the flame. BFD’s style is sexy, but classy; energetic and distinct.
